About Kyoto
Kyoto Prefecture is located in the Kansai region of Japan. Because it is so central on the Honshu island, and with the traditional and cultural hub of Kyoto City having been the capital city of Japan for over 1000 years until the Meiji Restoration, it is a prime and well sought-after location for JETs and tourists alike from all over the world!
Kyoto is famous for many things; it's full of ancient traditions, with over 2,000 shrines and temples and countless UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Kyoto City alone. To name a few more, Uji in the south has world-renowned matcha green tea, Keihanna Science City, also in the south is one of the world's leading innovative cities in Science and Technology, the forests in the central region are beautiful year-round, and up north is the stunning Amanohashidate (one of Japan's Three Great Scenic Views), where the prefecture rests on the Japan Sea.
