Hiragana Times
This is a monthly subscription magazine. You can access it online or have it delivered to your house. Hiragana Times is full of articles on culture and history, places you should visit, and interviews with various people from around the world. The magazine contains multi-level texts, making it the perfect study aide for both beginners and masters of the Japanese language.
A Dictionary of Japanese Grammar
Practically the "Bible" of Japanese grammar. This is a great resource to quickly look up any grammar point that comes your way. Not recommended to specifically study from since the grammar points are by Japanese-alphabetical order rather than any kind of grouping for learners. However it is very informational and a great reference! There are 3 different volumes: Basic, Intermediate, and Advance.
Heisig's Remembering the Kanji
A very popular kanji-learning book with vocal proponents. The aim of this book is to provide the student of Japanese with a simple method for correlating the writing and the meaning of Japanese characters in such a way as to make them both easy to remember.
