Residence Administrative Procedures
Please go to the nearest immigration office for any of the following:
1. Notification of a change of name, date of birth, gender, or nationality/region.
In case you change your name, date of birth, gender, or nationality/region, for instance you change your name or your nationality/region because of marriage, be sure to notify the Ministry of Justice of the change at a Regional Immigration Office within 14 days of the change.
2. Application for updating the validity period of a Residence Card.
Extensions to the period of stay only apply to 3rd year JETs (and for 4th and 5th year JETs who only received a 1 year extension or other JETs whose period of stay will expire during their period of appointment). You are able to file an application for extension up to 3 months in advance.

3. Application for re-issuance of a Residence Card.
In case your residence card is lost, stolen, severely damaged or defaced, please apply for re-issuance at a Regional Immigration Office.
- In case your residence card is lost or stolen, please apply for re-issuance within 14 days of the day when you noticed this (or the day when you re-enter Japan in case you noticed it outside of Japan). *To apply for re-issue, please bring with you a report of loss or a theft report certificate issued by the police department or a disaster victim certificate issued by the fire department in place of your residence card.
- In case your residence card is severely damaged or defaced, be sure to apply for re-issuance as soon as possible.
- You can apply for a replacement residence card even if it is not severly damaged or defaced. In such a case, you are required to pay a re-issuance fee.

4. Change in Address
If you move, please don't forget to submit a "moving-out" notification (tenshutsu-todoke 転出届) to your old municipal (ward) office and a "moving-in notification" (tennyu-todoke 転入届) to your new municipal (ward) office. If you stay in the same municipality, you will need to notify the municipal (ward) office of the change of address.
**Please remember that ALL JETs must carry their Residence Card at all times**

There are two immigration offices in Kyoto Prefecture.

For the office located in Maizuru City, click here.
Hours: From 9:00 to 12:00 and 13:00 to 16:00 (closed between 12:00 to 13:00 for lunch).
Closed on Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays.
